YOUTH SERVICES
Eligibility
- Ages 16-21
- Household income at or below the federal poverty level
- Facing identified barriers to education and employment
- Offered in the 19-county region served by the West Central Texas Workforce Development Board through a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Contract
Academic Services
- Academic Guidance and Counseling
- Pre-Testing to Identify Reading and Math Proficiency and Deficiency
- Tutoring & Classroom Instruction in GED Subject Areas
- Enrollment in Abilene Adult Education with Ongoing Support until the GED is attained
- Payment for GED TestingRemedial Assistance in Subject Areas where Students are Deficient
Vocational Services
- Vocational Guidance and Counseling Assessment Inventory to help Identify Vocational Interests and Strengths Skills Training focusing on Essiential Skills Necessary to Gain and Maintain Employment (Based on the SKANS Skills Identified by the Department of Labor)
- Paid Internships
- Assistance in Job Placement
Personal Services (as needed)
- Personal Counseling in Collaboration with the Family Psychology Center at Hardin Simmons University as well as with private Licensed Professional Counselors
- Chemical Dependency Counseling
- Assistance with any personal needs that pose barriers to education or employment such as transportation, shelter, & childcare.
